For an opening, a painting made for that business.

Orchids and flowers are often given to celebrate the opening of a business, clinic or shop. They are a bright, festive gift for the front of the shop.

Alongside them, some people want the feelings of that opening day to stay in a place they will see every day. For them, I paint an original work that captures where the business began.

Why a painting, for an opening?

Flowers fade with the season, but the hopes behind an opening are not meant for one day only. On days of doubt, or days that are simply too busy, it can help to have a place on the wall that brings you back to why you started. For people who feel this way, I paint the origin of a business as a single original work.

What happens in the brain when we see a beautiful painting

Professor Semir Zeki and colleagues at University College London studied brain activity while people experienced paintings and music (PLoS One, 2011).

When participants looked at paintings they had rated as beautiful, activity rose in the medial orbitofrontal cortex, a part of the brain linked to pleasure and reward. The more beautiful they found the work, the greater the activity.

Even a short time makes a difference

In 2023, a team at the University of Vienna asked 240 people to explore an online exhibition of Monet's Water Lilies (Computers in Human Behavior). After only a short time viewing the paintings on a screen, their mood improved and their anxiety eased. The more beauty and meaning people found in the art, the larger the change.

The first days of a new business are busy and full of tension. A painting of the business's origin, there when you look up, is the reason I offer art as an opening gift.

What kind of painting will it be?

I talk with you about why you started your business, the values you hold, and the future you want to bring to people.

I gather the words and feelings that come up again and again in our conversation, and turn them into color, form and light in one original painting.

Each painting comes with a letter that explains why these colors were chosen and what the work holds, so the story remains in words as well.

Ordering as a gift

If you would like it to be a surprise for the person receiving it, I can create the painting from your conversation with me as the giver.

It usually takes about two months from the first conversation to delivery.

If you would like it delivered in time for the opening day, it helps to let me know early.
