Art Basel Paris, the major international art fair held in Paris, ended earlier than planned in 2026. Its public weekend was called off.
What happened
This year, Art Basel Paris was scheduled to hold VIP previews on October 21 plus 22, followed by public days from October 23 to 25.
However, with demonstrations expected across Paris over the weekend, the organizers announced that, to safeguard visitors, exhibitors, staff plus artworks, the fair would close at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23. The public could attend on that one Friday only.
Barriers to stop vehicles were placed around the Grand Palais, and Friday visitors were asked to bring identification. The decision came after early sales of 147 million dollars had been reported.
Places to meet art can suddenly disappear
Even one of the largest art fairs in the world can suddenly close its doors because of events outside. Even when sales are going well.
It is better for there to be more than one place where people meet works of art. Seeing this news, I felt that again.

Asking an artist directly
Many of my works are born from talking directly with clients. What you hold dear, where you would like to hang it. I begin painting after taking the time to listen.
I share my work little by little through the blog on this website, along with a newsletter sent once every two weeks. Fairs plus exhibitions matter too, of course, but being able to stay directly connected with each person in this way is my foundation.
If there is an artist whose work draws you, try reaching out to them directly. That is one more way to meet art.
Mermaid nao's order art is a one-of-a-kind original painting, born from a conversation with you.
