二人でひとつの作品をつくる ― デュシャン賞のブローニョン・ロランと、組んでつくる力

The Prix Marcel Duchamp is one of the best-known contemporary art prizes in France. In 2026, it went to the artist duo Brognon Rollin.

Two people, one name

Brognon Rollin is the duo of David Brognon plus Stephanie Rollin. The prize was announced on October 22, 2026, at the Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris. The other artists on the shortlist were Joel Andrianomearisoa, Laura Henno plus Josefa Ntjam.

The jury was chaired by Xavier Rey, director of the Centre Pompidou. The prize money is 35,000 euros.

The winning work

The winning work is an installation made with coin-pusher machines of the kind found in arcades. Inside the machines are sobriety tokens, handed out at support groups to people working to recover from addiction, at milestones in their recovery. The title, 5376 Years, 1892 Months, 1110 Days, 1201 Hours, is said to add up the time all the tokens represent.

Behind each token is time that someone has built up, one day at a time. I took it as a work that handles a heavy theme quietly, with great care.

The idea of making something together

We tend to think of a painting or an artwork as something made by one artist. But many artists work in pairs, or in larger groups, to make a single work. They test their ideas against each other, and reach places neither could reach alone. I think this connects with building a team in a company, too.

Order art is also born from dialogue

I paint alone, but order art cannot be made alone. Only after listening to the client, after taking in what they hold dear, are the colors plus forms decided. With BUSINESS ART, the feelings of the owner, along with those of the people who work there, go into a single painting.

I may be the one holding the brush, but the painting is born from a conversation with the client: a piece we make together.

Mermaid nao's BUSINESS ART is a one-of-a-kind original painting of what your business stands for. Each piece is delivered framed.
