Concept & Background
This piece draws inspiration from the Japanese myth of Ame-no-Iwato, the heavenly rock cave. The sun goddess hides within the cave, and the world is wrapped in darkness. But the light had not disappeared — it had only gone into hiding.
Technique, Color & Expression
The red spreading across the center of the piece evokes the sun disc of the Japanese flag, while also symbolizing the heartbeat of life and the inner sun within us.
Creative Intent
We are not isolated beings — we stand within a continuum of land, ancestors, myth, and prayer. Light never disappears. It only hides.
